Goshuin Girls

Recent interesting phenomenon...
Female shrine/temple visitors called "Goshuin Girls" are increasing in Japan.
What are they?
What's Goshuin?

”Goshuin” is a stamp given at the shrines and temples after worship service
and, breifly speaking, a kind of certificate or a footstep on your visit to
that shrine or temple.
Each time of a request with a small amount of donation, priest stamps
a red seal and write down the guardian diety's name, temple name and
date of visit in brush drawing on the special notebook called "Goshuin Cho".

For those who are called "Goshuin Girls", collecting stamps itself
may be a pleasure such as collectors of old records are, but
brush drawing by the priest is really artistic and beautiful, so
worth collecting!
It is believed that we can enjoy the power of Guardian Diety emitted
from the stamp.

Notebook with pretty cover and design, and this may be one of
the reason that "Goshuin Girls" are motivated to the shrines or
temples to collect more stamps and stamp notebooks.

Ohanami - Cherry Blossom Viewing

  Osaka Castle in sakura season

I must say that " Ohanami " is a must thing to do for most Japanese in cherry blossom season. End of March to the begining of April is the best season for Ohanami (cherry blossom viewing / picnic under the cherry trees ) in Osaka.Picnic under the cherry blossoms.

As far as I know, in no other countries but Japan people go out with a lunch box and have get-together with friends and colleagues, enjoy eating and drinking under the lovely cherry blossoms that blooms only for a limited time.

Ohanami sitting under the trees may be a unique custom for people who live in the country that has no such custom.  Best place for ohanami (cherry blossom viewing) gets occupied quickly, first come first get the best place, so there is a case that someone is sent to spread a sheet and keep the space for others much earlier than the Ohanami party starts.
